Keto Recipe: Chocolate Donuts or Doughnuts

Updated: Jul 24, 2023

Do you spell it donut or doughnut? It seems like we've all begun to take shortcuts, even with our spelling. Either way your whole family will love these little round cakes. These taste great with or without a glaze on them but we've included several options. Scroll down for the few different glazes. Move over KK and DD, we've got this. Enjoy!

1. Preheat oven to 350°. Combine dry ingredients in a small mixing bowl, stir and set aside.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the wet ingredients, stir.

3. Slowly add dry ingredients into the wet, mix thoroughly., Let batter rest for 5 minutes.

4. Pour batter into donut molds (our molds are slightly smaller than a regular cake donut, about 3" diameter). Bake for 16 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean. Makes 12.

++NOTE: The vinegar and baking soda combo gives baked goods a nice lift, something that is missing from many keto goodies. It also cuts the eggy flavor of baked goods.

Plain Glaze

  • 1/2c sweetener of your choice (we use powdered Swerve or Splenda)

  • 1T water or almond milk

Mix all ingredients until smooth and creamy (shouldn't be too runny, think pancake batter thickness). Dunk tops of donuts into glaze. Lay, glaze up, on baking sheet to dry. At this point you could leave them plain or top with sprinkles, chopped nuts or chocolate shavings. Glaze will firm up slightly.

Maple Glaze

  • 1/4c sweetener of your choice (we use powdered Swerve or Splenda)

  • 1T water or almond milk

  • 1/4 tsp maple extract (we use Watkins)

Mix all ingredients until smooth and creamy (shouldn't be too runny, think pancake batter thickness). Dunk tops of donuts into glaze. Lay, glaze up, on baking sheet to dry. At this point you could leave them plain or top with sprinkles, chopped nuts or chocolate shavings. Glaze will firm up slightly.

Chocolate Glaze

Melt chocolate in microwave or stove-top. Mix all ingredients until smooth and creamy. Dunk tops of donuts into glaze. Lay, glaze up, on baking sheet to dry. At this point you could leave them plain or top with sprinkles, chopped nuts or chocolate shavings. Glaze will firm up slightly.

TIP: Make a double batch and freeze them after cooling completely. Don't frost them until you're ready to eat them. A simple chocolate frosting for one donut is equal parts melted chocolate and heavy cream (1T of each).
